You might want to review what happened 26th February 1993. A few US citizens of Arab descent, along with the encouragement of a blind Muslim cleric made bombs in their backyards and tried to explode them in the parking lot of the WTC. Many of them were students studying to become Chemical engineers and hence had access to bomb making material. Don't see any AQ there similar to the Kenyan embassy bombings (240 bead) and Cole (16 dead).
