Why would the mideast countries and Venezuela not want to limit supply and raise prices now ? With the low dollar hammering them, and their distaste of bush's global imperialism, it seems they could only gain from this tactic. Is bush going to invade them all to take their oil ?

The long run answer is not simply drill more and keep oil cheap. It's the always unpopular but ever realistic : find better ways to use what we have, until better alternatives become feasible through technological breakthroughs and we face the economic realism in pricing scarce energy supplies - not just for this year, but for the longer term future, as China, India, etc. inevitably grow their demand.

Replace those Hummers with Hybrids. Why not get 50 - 60 - 70 % of the cars on the roads to be hybrids as soon as possible ? Why not encourage it through the tax code and other incentives ? Why not spend the money we waste on wars and excessive compensation for the elite on developing sensible energy alternatives to benefit everyone ?

Because republicans control the government, that's why. For now.
