The actual testimony doesn't even need to be released. What the GOP should do is make a big stink about declassifying the documents, string the release process out for as long as possible, all the while continually increasing the intensity of their demands, even accusing the Democrats of infighting while the terrorists unite against us, and if the testimony is never released, celebrate. If it is in fact released, the GOP should underscore every single issue that even looks like a potential discrepancy, continuing the assault with renewed vigor, claiming that the Democrats have attacked the wrong people - and with lies. The mere storm of protest will so much harm Clarke and the Democrats that they will be kept off balance for the duration of the cycle. Of course they will try to steer the issue toward the economy and "JAHBS," but the GOP should never let them get up. The GOP should put the Democrat failure on terrorism ever on public trial, mentioning the economy only when advantageous, never once treating the Democrats as if thy are credible. When the Dems whine about the economy, the GOP merely needs declare that, as with 'your unprincipled attacks on terrorism, you attack on our economy is mere politicking.' Then the GOP merely needs to put its spin on the economy and go right at the Democrat's head regarding terrorism. "President Bush has built a firm foundation for America's economic future and safety. But instead of uniting behind the President so that America can continue in unity to find and stop her enemies, John Kerry and other Democrats have viciously attacked the President with the lies and inconsistencies of booksellers like Dick Clarke. For eight years neither Kerry nor any other Democrat responded when terrorists murdered Americans. For eight years America did nothing. No more. American cannot and will not go back to Kerry's failed 'policing actions.' etc., etc.." The Democracks would whither under that sort of attack if it is properly crafted. It would be impossible for them to get from under it, chiefly because it is all true and everyone knows it is true. We only need to hear it put bluntly - but with kindness.
