If I follow your reasoning; since many people have been named Jesus we can not know anything about or differentiate any of them?

Now you are making some progress here I can see finally ...you are willing to admit now that Jesus was as common a name then as Mohammed is today in the Islamic world ....this is something to consider. As for your second statement of the Lincoln parallel , stop being so intentionally dense:

Many people also have the name Abraham, must we therefore deny the existence of Abe Lincoln. That's just plain goofy.

No Greg , we are not talking about "denying the existence" of Abe Lincoln , what is being talked about here is of a "wonder-worker" figure of 2000yrs ago bearing a name that was associated for centuries throughout all and each of the Hebrew tribes with a champion of God's covenant , a Liberator of Men's hearts , a conquerer of Sin and leader of the people out of the wilderness and into righteousness . And all other manner of mystical, divine and heroic attributes , so that many were given the name Jesus . That part of the world was rife with the belief in such savior/hero figures, and forms it's basic tenent-belief earlier in Moses myth , and brother Joshua conquerer myth (Jesus of the Fish=Joshua) so any possibility of a Jesus figure arrriving to fulfill what was a culture almost always poised to see and find such a one , is no surprise.

We are talking about the ancient world here, not of a politician/president who was wise and learned but scared babies when he held them , who lived in the last two hundred years , and his "history" can be more readily accessed through so many numerous ways .
(Though there is another "Lincolnesque" political figure today , who does also scare babies with his inability to smile and manner called ---->John Kerry!;-)

hehe

Back to the name Jesus ...you can also find the same parallel with the title "Buddha" which can refer to one Siddhartha that lived 2500BC who under went all manner of tests and great physical suffering to discover the Middle Way , but which is a title like "Jesus" , that was also bestowed on any that are deemed bearing the qualities of "The Enlightened One " and are/were known to be great "wonder workers" and teachers of the righteous middle way .

Buddha is seen as only one in a long lineage of such mythic and real charactors, who were "wonder workers" as you like to call them , and great teachers .

So Jesus ...great teacher or wonderworker? One or many?
Heroic mythical figure , formed down thru the centuries always sought for and hoped for ?

....representing that new leaning toward more compassion and temperance and inner peace that transcendeth and understanding of the greater world at large .... that was beginning to dawn all over the world in men's wise and rational hearts, from China , India , Egypt to Rome definetly around 500BC or so we see this beginning to happen universally and so recorded ....as mankind begins to mature and grasp more of the reality of what is within itself in the miraculous field of time and the delicately balanced world of phenomena ?

And an ever shrinking world who begins to yield up her many mysteries and secrets slowly , as civilization affords men the chance to trade , explore , exchange ideas , and suffer each other but learn tolerance slowly and gradually and study her with a wider and wider field of knowledge at the base . That men needed to learn more humility and tread more softly upon the earth, and listen to their own hearts more ...well some ideas come at last don't they ?

"KNow Thyself: In All Things be Moderate "

from an inscription on the Temple to Apollo , to the teachings of Buddha or Lao Tsu or Confucious of China , all from around 500BC ...interesting isn't it?

(Right around the time the books of Moses were probably forged , I might add...which is also interesting )
