They did give referrences. There is a big writeup in Salon, but this site distilled the reports to a single page.

That is why Clarke testified that it was important to have daily meetings when there was reason to think something was up (and something was up in July 2001 that made Ashcroft and the rest quit flying on commercial airliners). When you are asking the agency heads each day "What do you have new today?", then they go back and check their translations and intercepts. It's a matter of priorities.
