<It hasn't happened in reverse.> It has not happened in reverse for the same reasons that would restrain Hamas -- both Israel and Hamas need some degree of international support. Israel is restrained to a degree by the United States -- the only country that does not consider Israel to be an outlaw state based on its behavior. Hamas would show only the degree of restraint necessary to consolidate its dominance over Israel -- this would preclude mass killings and deportations so as to avoid undermining their international support. Hamas and Israel are now both run by people who have resorted to murder and justify their killing as a necessary step to achieve their ends. Both kill for revenge. Both kill civilians. Hamas and Israel now meet each other on a moral level-playing field. The primary difference between them is their weapons.
