That's overly simplistic. US has been complicit in so many twists and turns in the region. Besides, there are plenty of despots all over the world, which receive little to no attention from this administration, which naturally causes people to intuitively sense that there are other, unrevealed, reasons for interest in Iraq.

More seriously I agree with bid buster - being a "bad man" was never the excuse, it was WMD / real and present danger to the USA / and hinted at links to al queda. So far none of which have borne out in reality...

I think the Bush admin needs to switch its advertising agency...
