I am one that doesn't think there is any deliberate misrepresentation going on. But the thing is, there are times when statistics are so obviously off that they should be questioned immmediately, the US GDP is like that. I didn't hear much wailing from the pundits who put these (obviously erroneous) numbers out. On this issue of jobs and outsourcing, which was covered in the BW piece, the economists kept chanting relentlessly that outsourcing was so trivial it didn't matter, until enough people including congress actually visited Bangalore at which point it is impossible to make that case anymore. THEN, and only then, did anybody look into what has been obvious for months. This sort of "digging ones head in the sand" makes it look like the OMB is trying to present overly rosy, erroneous statistics, while satisfying their corporate donors. Its just an obvious conclusion. Nobody really knows. But the 7-8% GDPs of last year were a huge red flag.
