We didn't have to take on Libya - it capitulated because of the credibility Bush created. NK and Syria and Iran have reason to be afraid.

Neither Syria nor Libya has demanded anything of the US. Libya has on the contrary given in to our demands re. disarmament and inspections.

What you cite is American propaganda, the Bush spin as Richard Clarke puts it. Here is the true story from one of the countries whose foreign leader probably also desires that Bush go.

.......For Gadhafi, the dilapidated Libyan economy after his 35 years of ironfisted rule is said to have been the strongest motivation behind his decision to change his strategy. It must be noted that Blair's visit was more than a political show for exchanging promises to fight terror together. There was a breakthrough deal to grant Shell, the Anglo-Dutch oil giant, the rights to explore for oil and natural gas in Libya, which could give access to as much as $1 billion worth of fuel in the long term.

American oil companies are already moving to increase pressure on the Bush administration to lift the sanctions that continue to bar U.S. companies from investing in Libya.
