<<<Running out of oil -- and time>>>

Gosh all fishhooks, Scott, it sounds like a crisis is developing in oil production that will doom the worlds oil based economy. The threat might even be described as 'imminent', since oil and gas prices have risen so high.

Perhaps the US should take a position in the ME, try to stabilize what is left of the region. Send some more troops over and stop those terrorists from continuing to blow up Iraqs oil production facilities and pipelines.

Or should we send all our troops out to capture OBL first?

Decisions, decisions,.....
Wonder what Kerry would recommend here?

I am always surprized that anyone in his right mind would actually volunteer to run for President of the US.

"One Nation, under God, with Liberty and Justice for all "

That statement is bound to irk a few Muslims, might have to change it. They are working on it.

It's now an article of faith among oil optimists, including those in the U.S. government, that global oil reserves won't run out for at least four decades, which seems like enough time to devise a whole suite of alternative energy technologies to smoothly and seamlessly replace oil.

But such oil optimism, always questionable, is now more suspect than ever. True, we won't "run out" of oil tomorrow, or even 10 years from now. But the long-term picture is grim. In the first place, it's not a matter of running out of oil but of hitting a production peak.(...)

"China and India, the sleeping giants, are waking up to embrace a Western-style high-energy industrialism that includes tens of millions of new cars"

-- It stands to reason that this fact will play very mightily with the demand vs. supply dynamic.

A new specter may be haunting the world... the specter of old Thomas Malthus.

At some point the Arabs will realize their only wealth lies in a wasting asset and will start carefully rationing the oil out to extend the income stream as long as possible. Once the oil is gone, the only thing they have left is sand and camels.
