New Parrot4 Chipset Enhances Multi-Service Wireless Applications in Mobile Environments

Enables Hands-Free Operation of Bluetooth Personal Devices in Vehicles

ROUSSET, France, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML - News) and Parrot® S.A. today announced market availability of the Parrot4 Automotive Communication Management Chipset. The chipset is the result of a long-standing collaboration between the two companies, aimed at designing and producing leading-edge multi-service ICs for mobile use, including automotive applications. The low-power Parrot4 supports GSM/GPRS, Bluetooth® and GPS functionalities, as well as high-specification analog CODECs and a 50MIPS DSP for microphones and speakers.
The Parrot4 Chipset is at the core of Parrot's highly integrated approach to in-car telematics, aiming at providing the automotive industry with a modular, reliable and cost-effective on-chip solution to on-board electronics. Designed for inclusion in Parrot's current lines of installation-free and after-market Bluetooth hands-free car kits that let drivers wirelessly control their mobile phones. The Parrot4 Chipset will also be included in the Parrot's new platforms unveiled at CeBIT -- the CK3100 Advanced Car Kit, CK3300 GPS Car Kit, and the CK3500 Professional Car Kit. Parrot markets and sells its products integrating the chipset to automobile manufacturers, transporters and technology resellers worldwide.

The Parrot4 Chispet is manufactured using Atmel's leading edge CMOS technology that maximizes performances while minimizing power consumption. It consumes no more than 13 uA in standby mode, and between 10 and 100 mA in operational mode. It includes an embedded DSP core. It is an example of the application of Atmel's SiliconCITY(TM) strategy for ASIC development and support.
