Not sure. Casual observation as the message numbers scroll by on my screen show them to be in the 6.5M to 10M message-number range, with most in the 7M area. I think the way that's being addressed here is really to do a join to another table to make sure it's a valid message number for the reader's Inbox before showing it. A kludge. And a relatively expensive one.
