Walmart has a history of destroying it's suppliers. NPR did a great piece on that subject, a month or so ago.

And on your plywood notes, I am seeing a nearly 200% price increases on particle board. Sheets that were $7 last year, are around $20 this year.

I was just notified that pvc suppliers are raising prices 10% this week, that has become a less than quarterly occurrence, for the last two years.

From Fleck's reader:

Dear Fleck,
I am a very angry business owner in Long Island New York. I own a medium size wholesale bakery in Nassau county. I have felt for a long time that the government numbers on inflation have been a complete lie(not just a massage). Now the proof is showing up in my business and the rate of inflation seems to be equaling that of the 70's. Here are some hard core wholesale food prices that have inflated just during the past 10 weeks. All can be documented with invoices.

1. A case of fresh eggs has gone from $18-$21 all the way to $41. Yes more than double. In my 15 years of owning the bakery, I have never seen eggs above $28 a case.
2. Butter has gone from $56 a case to $94 a case.
3. Heavy cream has gone from $2.10 a quart to $2.50 a quart. Oh, by the way, I received a phone call from my dairy supplier last Friday. Starting on April 1st the price will be going up another 80 cents a quart.
4. Cream cheese went from $35 a case to $42
5. All soy based products and topping have gone up 15-20 percent last week.
6. Flour has only gone up 5 percent.
7. Cocoa went crazy about 15-18 months ago.
I agree with you and Mr. Russell. This market will not have a fairy tale ending.

FWIW HD pays for lumber it buys from WY a premium over Random Lengths prices as they are published weekly. They pay a premium because the grade they receive is a higher grade pulled to HD specs.
