the spokesman for Kofi Annan confirmed that the secretary general's soft-spoken son, Kojo, was on the payroll of Cotecna Inspections of Switzerland until December 1998. In that very month, the United Nations awarded Cotecna the contract to monitor and authenticate the goods shipped to Iraq.

Thanks for posting that article Lorne...

Of course, none of the intellectual riff-raff who constantly flail Bush over not obtaining more UN support will be willing to cite the inherent conflict of interest many of its members had in perpetuating the oil for food program..

They certainly will be unlikely to cite the DIRECT conflict of interest Kofi Annan had in the oil for food program. They will be content to continue rambling about Cheney and Halliburton.

Just like they refuse to acknowledge that it was France and Russia who, having found themselves outnumbered in the UNSC last spring in the vote to direct the use of military force against Saddam, opted to use their permanent vetoes to protect their oil interests (as well as preventing the world from knowing of their past collaborations with his regime).

Remember last year when Eason Jordan, News Manager for CNN worldwide? Remember when he admitted that for 11 years (!!!!!) he made the decision that CNN wouldn't tell the truth about the Saddam situation in Iraq because he wanted to "protect" his news staff in Baghdad...(really meaning that it was more important to have the station there business-wise, than to get out, and tell the truth to the entire about the situation)......

The UN and Iraq "oil for food" kickback affair is 'kin'....Heaven forbid that the UN would really tell the truth!
