they are actually claiming something even more controversial and taboo than cold fusion, that is transmutation of elements/alchemy... This article by Y. Iwamura et al has now been published by the Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (http://jjap.ipap.jp) and is available for viewing at that site.

It's not, really. Or I couldn't find it. If you care to dig it up, I'd love to see it.

It may or may not be that conventional quantum mechanics can explain such phenomena; I think it unlikely that it can.

I wish you would not copy&paste stuff that other people have written. It is not YOU who thinks it is unlikely that "conventional" quantum physics can explain "such phenomena", right? It is the guy who wrote the letter in the link you posted.

Thank God for that, otherwise you could be asked to explain what you think quantum mechanics ("conventional" or otherwise, whatever that is) should be necessary to explain chemical reactions, which is what it sounds like.

experiment of permeating D2 gas through Pd complexes...
We performed D-permeation experiments...

Just out of curiousity - What is "D2", or "D", for that matter? For the life of me, I cannot remember an element "D" on the Periodic Table. Is that a new element, uh, TRANSMUTED by the Japanese? Sorry but I find it difficult to take this rather elusive subject seriously. Are you just Googling this stuff and throwing what LOOKS serious my way? Please don't.
