Circuit City to Buy InterTan for About $284 Million (Update1)
March 31 (Bloomberg) -- Circuit City Stores Inc., the second- largest U.S. electronics chain, agreed to buy InterTan Inc. for about $284 million to add RadioShack stores in Canada.

Stockholders of Barrie, Ontario-based InterTan will get $14 in cash for each share they own, the companies said in statements.

The purchase will give Circuit City 980 retail stores in Canada that InterTan operates under the RadioShack, Rogers Plus and Battery Plus names. Circuit City is trying to regain market share to compete with larger rival Best Buy Co.

Shares of Richmond, Virginia-based Circuit City fell 26 cents to $10.70 yesterday in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. InterTan shares rose 7 cents to $12.25.
