31/03/2004

TATA Honeywell Limited has announced that Indian Oil Corporation Limited, India's sole representative in the prestigious listing of the world's 500 largest corporations (ranked 191 for the year 2003) has chosen TATA Honeywell to provide an integrated security solution to create a robust and future wise security system. The security system will protect Indian Oil's infrastructure, covering almost 500 installations, including refineries, terminals, pipelines and offices across India against intrusion, theft, sabotage, and terror attacks.

The Security system, one of the largest in Asia, will be based on access control which include technologies like smart card and biometrics which use unique information and body features to identify the people authorized to enter the installations. The TATA Honeywell system is aimed towards safeguarding Indian Oil's vast and geographically dispersed physical infrastructure from unauthorized access of people and vehicles, improve productivity and enhance security level.

In order to secure and monitor this very large infrastructure, TATA Honeywell would deploy nearly 1600 Access Controllers, 3000 Finger Print and Smart readers and about 1000 turnstiles and barriers across 500 installations of Indian Oil. The total size of the order is worth about 5.8 million USD.

"Indian Oil's business is of critical nature and even a small lapse in security can result in huge losses for the organization. By going in for TATA Honeywell's integrated security automation, Indian Oil will be able to secure, monitor and regulate people and vehicle movement all the time," said Bhaskar Ganguly, Head Security Solutions Business Unit, TATA Honeywell Limited. "This award re-asserts our leadership position in the security market and has opened opportunities for its future growth in strengthening other security infrastructure as well."

In a short span of just three years, TATA Honeywell's Security Solutions Business Unit has established itself as a leading solutions provider in Security Automation industry. It recently added some very big and prestigious clients to its roaster including Sahara India, Indian Navy, L&T, ONGC, and HAL.

Commenting on the deal, Vinayak Deshpande, Managing Director, TATA Honeywell Limited said "TATA Honeywell understands the challenges organizations face as they attempt to secure infrastructure - both material as well as people assets - against potential security threats from within and outside. Tata Honeywell's integrated security solutions are designed to harness the potential of information technology in order to improve warning and analytic capabilities, prevent losses and achieve highest level of physical and operational security."
