China's 'breakthrough' core router

p2pnet.net News:- China's Tsinghua University says it's achieved a breakthrough in the development of key technology for the next generation of the Net.

"On CERNET2, a recently-opened trunk test network of the next-generation Net, China's first core router based on the Ipv6 protocol operated successfully," says ChinaTechNews, going on:

"The next-generation Net represents the latest stage of development, with higher speeds, larger address capacity and better security, which can only be utilized when equipment operated on it is Ipv6 compatible. Currently only a few countries have developed Ipv6 core routers."

CTN says research began two years ago and that the new core router was jointly developed by Tsinghua University's computer department and the Tsinghua Unisplendour Bitway Networking Technology Co, Ltd.

"The new router boasts a transmission capacity of 320 billion bits per second and a forwarding ability of 96 million times per second," it adds.
