And he has that long legislative record to mine for tidbits to take out of context.

Not really out of context. He has one of the most liberal voting records in congress.

So when the Bush Administration, in its frenzied rush to transfer more wealth to the already wealthy

There are indeed programs that do this but they pretty much all started before Bush was president.

hurts the working poor, you can count the troops among them. The 2003 Bush tax cut for the rich, for example, failed to extend a child tax credit to nearly 200,000 military personnel.

The tax credit didn't extend to those who are not net payers of federal income tax. Pretty simple idea. Their are a number of people, in the military and elsewhere, who used to pay federal income taxes and now do not. All of them would rightfully be classified as working poor that where helped by the tax cut.

I am not confident Bush will lose. I think it will be close. But Bush and the Reps are in the unenviable position of needing to defend everything which is wrong--the human, political, and financial costs of war; and economic issues such as the deficit and foreign trade.

Finally, democrats will be far more motivated to vote. They feel wronged by the previous election results, and outrage motivates more than complacence.

Bush had better capture Osama if he is to benefit from the emotional vote.
