Hi John. I don't see you around here much, probably because I'm not around here much myself. My tolerance for the debate has gotten smaller, partly because the debate seems less and less like a debate and more and more like a shouting match. Half of America seems convinced that if Bush wins, he will either declare a dictatorship or hold an IPO and privatize the government (which might not be a bad idea, except that given the balance sheet, I’m not sure anyone would want the shares). The other half seems convinced that if Kerry wins, he will flip the Statue of Liberty over a hitching rail and offer her brazen buttocks to Osama. Both propositions seem a bit exaggerated to me.

Of course things aren't really as bad as they seem. I am assured on SI that everything in Iraq is fine, and that all suggestions to the contrary are politically motivated distortions by the liberal media. Hamas has been decapitated and will thus die. And so on.

The world looks so nice through rose-colored glasses. I wonder where I can buy a pair....
