Apologies for the tardy response. Last night SI stopped accepting posts from me. I could preview and even edit a post, but the final submission consistently resulted in a server error. Anyway, here was my response last night

Two points.

ignoring higher-rank neocons like Rumsfield and Cheney

Not only do I not ignore them, I consider von Rumsfeld to be a dangerous ideologue, and my opinion of Cheney is unprintable.

you qualify. So does Chomsky, in spades.

For putting me in the same category as Chomsky, I would like to thank you - even though I know I don't deserve it.

Thanks again.

The only thing I would like to add this morning is a little discussion on classification and categorization. As circumstance would have it, I've spent a little time on devising classification schemes for large amounts of new data. One should be extremely careful in defining the categories of a classification scheme. These categories become the shorthand symbols for your thinking about the data. If the categories are properly defined, then thinking (manipulation of the symbols) about the data will be "clear headed", and reveal subtleties not first dreamed of. OTOH, poorly defined categories, not only preclude insight, but usually lead to error.
