DRBES, this is an interesting development. The HP machines will obviously come in at higher price points than the eMachine models...Which raises the question of whether Gateway will follow with Athlon/A64s at significantly higher price points than the eMachine models. I guess the question is how Gateway wants to differentiate among these two divisions.

By using 5XX model numbers in its PC names, HPs move is clearly meant to NOT position Athlon XP and Athlon 64 against Celeron.

How much you want to bet that HP will soon reveal a 3XX series that exclusively features Intel Celeron processors. Maybe they'll throw a few low end Athlon XP models in that series as well.
