If O'Reilly and Rush required networks to go 100% conservative instead of just taking their show, they would have lower penetration.

I agree. In NYC though, Rush's "flagship station", WABC-AM, is about 100% right wing, and O'Reilly's NYC station, WOR-AM, is mostly a conservative hangout.

there were plenty of stations in places like Chapel Hill that wanted Franken's show, but AA doesn't package it that way, its all or nothing.

Interesting. I think that is a mistake. Any self-respecting AM talk radio station has at least a few hours devoted to local blabbermouths.
