An "answer" that relies on awe and humility has little value for those who worry religion only for the bribery it represents for more time to indulge themselves. Greg's only interest in religion is in the carrot it gives him to nibble. But he is so afraid to lose that carrot. Greg thinks that "Jesus" promised him something. Of course, he did not. Greg's subconscious believes it is apples and tame deer. Of course, it is not.
