uh-huh. Didn't we just try this with regard to Iraq and Saddam, with, shall I say, mixed results?

But you and I both know that Chirac and Putin's political "c*ck blocking" was merely their way of trying to protect their parochial economic interests (oil).

But I find it very hard to see where they could honestly try and block an international settlement in Palestine, especially since I seem to recall that this is something they have advocated from time to time.

And certainly their muslim populations would take great offense at blocking an international solution that is seen as forcing Israel to get out of the West Bank and Gaza, including settlements (or place them under Palestinian control).

We have seen that no amount of evidence will get them to notice that Arafat is a terrorist.

Possibly not... But still irrelevant. Because Arafat will find himself required to abide by a NATO imposed solution and I find it difficult to believe that he would have the political leverage (or angle) to ignore such political pressure..

My bet is that he would finally get off his @ss and strike a deal that preserves the legacy that HE was responsible for the creation of Palestine, rather than NATO..

The very threat of NATO/UN intervention in resolving the problem might just be the "motivation" that forces both sides to recognize that control of their political destinies is about to fall from their hands.

The territories are being run by armed gangs, which suits Arafat fine.

So... it's the same way in most parts of Iraq and Afghanistan. But I'm talking about putting several divisions of NATO troops into those territories (possibly up to 100,000 plus troops).. That should be more than enough to disarm these gangs.
