And I imagine that you're all for the Patriot Act... (The most UNDEMOCRATIC legislation in US History)

And why was it passed?

As a direct response to the threat that Islamic Militancy poses to Western society.

But maybe you'd prefer something like a NEP (new economic plan).. Lenin liked the concept...

Lot's of democratic values there...

And why do we only seem to "promote Democracy" where we have major business interests?

Why do people only complain about crime when it impacts their interests?

There plenty of evil in the world Dr. Id*** (which you surely possess a Phd in). We can't change all of that overnight..

But 9/11 made it OUR PROBLEM with regard to creating lasting and progressive change in the Mid-East.

And like it or not, the global economy runs on oil and will for the forseeable future. It's in our interest to not only protect our short-term access to that commodity, as well as create long-term socio-economic diversity to supplant it in preparation for the time when the oil runs out, both for the consumers as well as for the suppliers.

Now you have to decide whether you have the intestinal fortitude to protect our values or permit Islamic Militants to force us to undermine.

Btw, would you prefer that the Federal government declare martial law as it actually (or effectively) did during WWII in Hawaii (despite it being a territory and not a state)?

There was also a limited martial law declared in LA for a period of time..

Both events were far more limiting to personal freedoms than is the Patriot Act.

And if people of your ilk don't get on the bandwagon and assist in fighting the wave of Islamic militancy (and the considtions that are spurring it) throughout the middle east, you will likely find yourself looking back fondly on the relative freedom you enjoyed under the current law you seem to so despise.

I don't want that, and apparently neither do you...

But all it's going to take is one major use of WMDs in this (or any other) country by an Islamic militant group and that reality will likely come to pass..
