James > How can investors celebrate a 300k rise in employment in the service and construction sector when total employment at the same time went UP to 5.7%?

Don't you mean UN-employment?

As I understand it, about 150K new jobs need to be created every month just to allow for the normal increase in population.

> Manufacturing, which I consider the main indicator is still dropping

I suppose most of the so-called rise in employment came about by more people selling hot-dogs and fries and such like.

Also they don't like the NACP and affirmative action, both of which are Clinton "specialities". The unfortunate truth is that the conservative movement, which formerly ran the Republican party, has been pushed aside by a bunch of Mafia-style Trotskyites, known as neocons, and these now dominate GOP policy, particularly foreign policy. Traditional right-left affiliations have been completely distorted and blurred. Thus we hear there is nothing to choose between Bush and Kerry and, in fact, that may well be true --- although it's hard to believe anyone could be a bigger liar than W.

The situation in the US is now similar to the UK where Labour, traditionally a left wing, workers' party, has become more right-wing and elitist than the Conservatives which is the traditional right-wing party. So there is no longer a proper democracy or a real opposition and political debate takes place over nonsense. In SA, we have an effective one-party state but with a few nuisance, "opposition" parties hanging around to give the facade of democracy. Possibly, that is the future for all Western countries.
