Depite of NATO expansion up to Russian's border, Russia's relationship with major NATO members France and Germany are seen to draw closer since the Iraq war. Counter Israel/US neocons' global and Middle East domination by the big three and the other nations seems continuing.

MOSCOW: German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder flew into Moscow late Friday for talks with President Vladimir Putin, the first Western leader to visit since Putin's landslide reelection on March 14.

Schroeder's plane touched down just before 7:00 pm (1500 GMT) at Moscow's Vnukovo airport, from where he was to travel to Putin's countryside residence of Novo-Ogaryovo west of Moscow for discussions followed by dinner.

The German leader's flying visit to Russia comes just ahead of a trip on Saturday by French President Jacques Chirac, as the two European heavyweights seek to strengthen ties forged with Moscow over the Iraq war.

Moscow, for its part, is keen to use its influence with the two countries to counterbalance frosty relations with the European Union and NATO as the two organizations expand deep into the former Soviet bloc.
