The above boggles my mind. I grew up in a middle class democratic family. I made my own decision to be a Republican - largely based on economic principals. Believe it or not - some people believe in lesser government - they honestly believe that. Some people believe that making companies profitable is a good thing. Some people really believe that over regulation is detrimental to the overall good. Some people honestly believe that higher taxes do not maximize government revenue.

Ultimately the tax code is the issue - are higher taxes the route to higher government revenue? Or - are lower taxes and greater economic growth a better answer.

That is a legitimate issue for debate. Unfortunately, the current campaign is going to so polarize the nation that there will be no honest debate.

My sincere hope is that one candidate wins 55:45 so it is clear where the people stand.
