That's the big lie of the right.

According to the SS Trustees (which include 3 Bush cabinet members) SS is completely solvent until 2042. After that, without any changes the system could pay 73% of benefits.

And that's with no changes and conservative growth estimates. With a little more optimistic growth estimates (say 3.5% average) SS never fails for at least 75 years.

The crisis is a lie.

Medicare is in worse shape than it was last year in part because Bush and the Republicans added a drug benefit to it.
