Report on Jakarta will come as soon as I get settled. Too much to do in the first 4 to 6 weeks. Also need to get the 'pulse' of the country.

Know what? After living here 4 years in the late 90s -pre economic meltdown- then living in Thailand and Malaysia after the collapse had worked through, and now back to here, it will give me a perspective that I didn't have when I was here first time.

I don't read the stuff on libraries, Jay, I live the history!

In 1997 pre crisis: 1USD=IDR 2.500)
a Jakarta 3Bed Room town house cost USD2500 per month.

In 2004 post crisis(1USD=IDR8.550)

Today, a Jakarta 4 Bed Room villa cost USD1.950 per month
today.

This villa in 1997 -pre crisis would have cost USD6.000

The area is full of "Di Jual" signs for sale signs. Properties have been without tenants for a few years judging by the outside conditions.
