No "nuance" in our approach.

Lack of nuance has a variety of causes. One of them is an inherent distaste for nuance as a general principle. Another is a lack of capacity for it. Yet another, the one that applies in this case, is a lack of knowledge and experience in a given subject area. One can hardly tiptoe amidst the subtlety when the entire subject area is alien. To me, the religious right is as incomprehensible as the ritual of Japanese business cards or the honor-shame paradigm of the ME. So I appreciate any work that offers a thoughtful taxonomy I can get my head around. It's an inadequate substitute for the profound knowledge that enables nuance, but some understanding is better than none.
