Pelecanos once said in an interview that The Last Good Kiss by James Crumley is the best hard boiled novel he's ever read. Naturally I read it right away. Not sure if it deserves the high praise Pelecanos had for it, but I enjoyed it very much. I've read other stuff by Crumley since, he's worth checking out if you're into hard boiled...

Make sure you reserve Robert Parker's, "Bad Business," Pelecano's "Hard Revolution," and Michael Connelly's "The Narrows."

Love the Parker; as always great dialogue.

Couldn't get past the first chapter in Pelecano. Sometimes when a book has a bad first chapter, I'll read the ending to see if it's worth hanging in. With Pelecano, I didn't even do that.

As for Connelly, I usually like his stuff. Is that an 04 novel of his? I think I missed it.

Thanks for the recommendations.
