<Are you 100% sure about this? Did you see what happened today?

Carl, the only I'm sure about is that if we pursue your approach of doing nothing in the region towards changing the social, economic, and political tone of the region, we're going to have far more to worry about 5-10 years from now than you can even imagine in your worst nightmares.

And to be more specific, Sadr's group is different animal that Al-Sistani's. When I see Sadr being able to effectively subvert or undermine the overall authority of Al-Sistani's power base amongst the Shiites, then they'll be far more evidence of your concerns.

But suffice it to say, this constant second guessing, by people like yourself, of the worthiness and necessity of our mission in Iraq and the rest of the mid-east to create positive and progressive change, is far more worrysome than anything I'm currently seeing in Iraq..

Because frankly I'm sick of

1.) self-hating Americans who think the US is the root of all evil in the world, conveniently choosing to ignore the inherent evilness of non-democratic existence, and..

2.) those who STILL think we can ignore the problems that are spontaneously combusting from the evil and injustice in the world, foolishly presuming that we have no business getting involved.. People who, from their arrogance, think that by our non-involvement, we can avoid inciting the wrath of the world's fanatics. People who think fighting (and dying) for the creation of democratic ideals in a society that have never known them is somehow evil or not in our self-interest.

IOW, people who think they can see, but who are really blind to how their reality is being shaped by forces that are fast spinning out of control.
