So far I think Dean has been the only one with the balls to get in Bush's face, and he's backed off to clear the stage for Kerry. They are all very quiet, Kerry included. What's up with that? John, its stinks .....I think its a combination of believing we can't leave now because it would mean anarchy for Iraq and the fact that many Americans still believe we are doing the right thing and that it would be inappropriate to back off at this point.....the Puritan ethic thing all over again. Furthermore, I'm sure Kerry doesn't want to turn off the electorate over this issue. Vietnam or no Vietnam, any fool could see that going to Iraq was a ridiculous move. It made absolutely no sense.......even if you believed Bush and company re. the WMDs. It just galls me that Bush got his way. I'll tell ya......this country has to get over its hero hang up. Even as a kid, I thought we were too pumped up from WW II and the Korean wars........thinking we were all that. I thought Vietnam taught us a lesson.....that we were not invincible and that we needed to pick our fights carefully. Unfortunately, too many of Bush's cabinet did not get the lesson of Vietnam and instead looked to the Gulf War as proof the Vietnam mess was a minor setback and to be ignored in the grand scheme of things. Now here we are back in a similar mess. As you say, it may be a police action vs a Vietnam military effort but the results are still the same........we are getting our butts kicked. And mark my words...........if one American soldier gets mutilated, burned and dragged thru an Iraqi street and then hung out to dry, I will be participating in every peace demonstration and doing everything I can 'til every last American soldier is back in this country and out of Iraq! DR talks about how Bush will go down in history as a great president.......yeah, right! Only that part of our history written by the GOP. ;~) ted
