Yes, certainly it would have, most certainly economically. Israel has a European-size economy and trades mostly with Europe. No analysis I have ever seen suggests that, helpful as the American military aid has been, it was a deciding factor in the Arab/Israeli wars. The Arabs have always had more men and guns, it's not the equipment that wins or loses the wars. But dammit Nadine.. what do you want us to do... fight them all and launch a clash of civilizations? Is that what you want to wait for? Wait for the 40-50% of the Arab population that is under 18 to reach adulthood, brainwashed with hatred towards Jews, and willing to commit suicide for their beliefs? Are you willing to continue to permit the mass indoctrination of millions of Arab youth to such an anti-Israeli (and American) Jihad simply because you don't think we should refuse to be held hostage to the "arab street" and their irrational beliefs? The indoctrination has gone on for years, Hawk. It goes on in every Arab land. It goes on in Pakistan. It went on during the height of the Oslo delusion; it went on during intifda; it went on during the truces. The indoctrination does not depend on Israeli actions. If Israel dropped into the sea tomorrow, the indoctrination would cheer the miracle and continue. I am American, Hawk, and what I'm telling you is that no rational settlement is possible while there is no rational Palestinian actor. Any action such as you propose would only turn America (or its NATO proxy) into Israel's policeman on the the West Bank and Gaza and hand the war to them. While one side does not want peace, there will be no peace - unless you propose to destroy that side utterly.Forget the right and wrong of catering to Arab craziness, Nadine. I am not making an argument about the right and wrong of it, Hawk. I am making an argument about the complete uselessness of it, the total counter-productivity of it. You cater to this craziness, all you get is more craziness. It is time to stop making excuses for the Middle East.
