CA is extremely diverse; politically, ethnically, racially, and spiritually. It is also much more open minded than many other areas, at least in my experience. The result is that it embraces both liberal and conservative ideals, which constantly clash but make people think.

What other state would elect both Ronald Reagan and Jerry Brown as governor? ;)

California will go for Kerry by 60% and that still won't be enough to prove Californians aren't nutty. Any Californian who votes for Cheney-Bush after their engineered and covered up energy crisis gouging cost us 30 billion bucks is a duped sucker or extreme rightwing idealogue. BTW: they're gouging us again now.
