re: "My guess is that INTC is using *VERY* nominal sizing when reporting their process feature sizes."

For process features I agree it is a very nominal size. However, for die sizes I would expect them to correspond to the physical die. Whether the die shrink corresponds well to the actual process node would be only a general relationship - as often there were other gross changes in the architecture as well (new features, etc.).

The original post by jlh682 I was replying to was appropriate in noting that comparing 0.18 with 0.13 products during a relatively brief transition time is deceptive. And while Intel might consolidate Prescott with a revision the change will likely be relatively modest (like the 10% drop on 0.13); either way, Intel will be able to produce a lot of dies since their 0.09 production is an addition to the existing 0.13 which will remain competitive in the CPU market for some time yet (and IMHO perhaps more competitive than the intial Prescotts).

AMD, on the other hand is displacing 0.13 production so yields, transition time and production ramp are more important. But I see no reason to ponder this in any detail since we have no details beyond the standard 'everything is going fine' and the plan for an aggressive transition which seems to support this.
