The Battleground States

These states are receiving the bulk of the targeted advertising, 2004 electoral votes (2000 winner):

Arizona 10 (Bush)
Arkansas 6 (Bush)
Florida 27 (Bush) Kerry leads 48% to 45%
Iowa 7 (Gore) Kerry leads 51% to 41%
Maine 4 (Gore)
Michigan 17 (Gore) Kerry leads 48% to 44%
Minnesota 10 (Gore) Kerry leads 47% to 44%
Missouri 11 (Bush) Bush leads 49% to 42%
Nevada 5 (Bush)
New Hampshire 4 (Bush) Bush leads 48% to 43%
New Mexico 5 (Gore) Bush leads 46% to 45%
Ohio 20 (Bush) Kerry leads 45% to 41%
Oregon 7 (Gore)
Pennsylvania 21 (Gore) Kerry leads 45% to 44%
Washington 11 (Gore) Kerry leads 50% to 44%
West Virgina 5 (Bush) Tied at 46% each
Wisconsin 10 (Gore) Kerry leads 46% to 43%

There are 180 electoral votes in these 17 battleground states. In the “safe” states, Bush has 190 electoral votes and Kerry has 168.

Kerry needs 270 votes to win. So he needs 102 from the above 17 states.

Recent polls are not available for every state.
