You can smell the big ones at 3 miles when the wind is right. If you're not about to eat dinner I'll add a little. Hog waste is pretty watery. They store it in pits or lagoons. It's hauled to the fields in what are called of all things, Honey Wagons. It gets sprayed on wheat fields and the Illinois Department of Transportation sprays it on new grass seeding areas. High in nitrogen so it makes those plants jump.

If you are ever at a farm auction and you're not being stung by bees, don't open the lid on a honey wagon to smell the honey.
