Well, I am beginning to think like this...I do think I can get better then 8.5% over the long haul...but since we are already heavily exposed to equities do we really want to risk her pension, god forbid the world goes to hell in a hand basket and equities dont get good returns......In other words....since we are already heavily exposed to equities, why risk a guaranteed pension if there is a possibility we can lose it, regardless of POSSIBLE greater rewards......I do think I can get 8.5% on average over the long term...heck, one year like 03 makes up for 5 or 10 years of 8.5% gains...even her 401k which is in mutual funds, bonds and etc...got 42% in 03, so I do think I can get 8.5% on average....but again, since we are already heavily exposed to equities, I am thinking it is better to let my IRA's, her 401k and my trading accounts to ride the equities market and possibly not risk her pension...if martket does well, we wont do as well with her pension, but all our other stuff should do well......and if things go bad, then everything we have will go bad, but at least her pension is guaranteed and wont be effected by a lousy market.......I prefer the new plan as history dictates that equities are the place to be for the long term...but what happened in the past is no guarantee of the future, so do I really want to risk a guaranteed payment when she retires in the hopes of a greater reward???
