Look, if you don't think that releasing a plane load of Saudis to fly to Saudi Arabia that included a bunch of bin Ladens, while all flights were still grounded bears looking into, then you must be insane.

I'm not even sure at that time whether we knew for certain that bin Laden was the perpetrator of 9-11, or if we knew that most of the hijackers were Saudis. Somebody knew something about Saudi involvement in the attack, or otherwise there would be no need to evacuate Saudis.

This request came to this administration, and they passed it on to Clarke for him to do something about. His first reaction was to refuse. But for some reason he then turned it over to the FBI. The FBI cleared the flight. So Clarke ok'd it.

But Clarke did not field this request directly from the Saudi embassy, he got the request from someone that would be dealing with the embassy, ie the state department or the White house.

Thank god for these 9-11 hearings, the hearings that the Bush administration tried to block, or we probably wouldn't even be finding out how that plane was released.
