This is going to turn out to be a religious war. And with some fanatic Muslims, if they die fighting for their religion then they go to heaven. So they will flock from thousands of miles to get felled by a American bullet (they belive they can jump the line at the gates in Heaven if they die with a US bullet). :)

Now if Bush had given this some thought and listened to his predecessors, critically examined his predecessors' Iraq policy, he would have realized that containment of Saddam was in the best American interest. But he went ahead and wanted to topple Saddam the way he did.

Even if regime change was a goal, he could have achieved that over a longer period of time and done it such that he would not jeopardize regional stability.

Now Bush has to face the music not only from the Iraqis but also from us here in the US. Regime change here in the US is the key to restoration of peace in Iraq. Kerry cannot cut and run. He said he wouldn't do so. But he will handle is differently. He would have to renounce and also demonstrate that he does not have any interest in the Iraqi oilfields and include contractors from all the countries in the world to rebuild Iraq.
