I think that despite the fiasco in Iraq (where we are too busy fighting run of the mill sunnis and shiites to bother much with terrorists), people still want a president who is willing to bomb the crap out of offending nations.

So McCain would shore Kerry up in that area.

Of course the odds of the ticket coming to fruition are miniscule anyway.
