RBC, 06.04.2004, Moscow 12:16:07.Russia is very concerned about the situation in Iraq. "Moscow is extremely concerned about the worsening situation in Iraq, which moves to a qualitatively new level," said Alexander Yakovenko, an official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry. He stressed it was necessary to stop the "spiral of violence in this country". Moscow believes that only the broad involvement of the international community, including Iraq's neighbors, and the active role of the United Nations can add positive dynamics to the Iraqi situation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is expected to issue a statement on this issue today.
