The official, who asked not to be identified, said initial reports indicated that dozens of Iraqis assaulted the Marine position near the governor's palace in Ramadi. "There may have been as many as a dozen Marine deaths," the official said, adding that "a significant number" of Iraqis were killed. The official said it was not clear exactly who had mounted the fierce attack on the Marines in an area of the so-called "Sunni Triangle," a hotbed of support for the regime of former President Saddam Hussein.washingtonpost.com
