Actually there's a very real possibility of the draft being reinstated anyway. With the high turnover rate in the US military now, and the huge drop in re-enlistments. The US could very well need the draft to maintain a basic standing army. Bush's foreign policy could also very well lead to the military relying more and more on third world recruits. There are plenty of them serving now. Soon, they may be the only folks willing to sign up. When Female soldiers in Iraq are getting pregnant right and left and being sent home, there's a morale problem. When soldiers start writing anonymous letters to their congressional representatives, there's a morale problem.
It would be interesting to know how many draft-age Americans are waving the flag and gung-ho about Bush's war on Iraq, but who haven't gotten around to signing up for duty. Likewise how many of them have parents who are waving the flag and thumping their chests about Iraq. They'd change their tune quickly if they thought junior was going to be shipped to the Sunni Triangle posthaste...
