For a while there our carriers were over-deployed and were accumulating a lot of deferred maintenance.

I would think all of our carriers are back up to speed by now.

At one time we had six carrier battle groups (1/2 our total) in the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea. I don't know the details of current Navy deployment but we certainly have extensive Naval support, including carrier groups, to cover the 100,000++ troops in country.
Since we now own airfields in Iraq, USAF is also more readily available for troop support..
