<He says that Pakistan helped put the Taliban into power in Afghanistan and still can't keep their own cities under power. >

Taliban or religious right in 1979 were considered a better alternative than USSR based Parcham leaders by no less a person than Brezenski, my youth memories cannot erase the picture when he came to Peshawar and without any provocation from our border town aimed a rifle at Soviet occupied Afghan territory, it this is what the people in USA call a Pakistani backed religious right in Afghanistan than I accept the responsibility.

Not that in past Pakistan would back out on any occasion to lead jihad but since 911 the rightist elements within Pakistan army have been sidelined and new exigencies have demanded that this over enthusiastic finger that lends itself to global Islamic causes may be given a back stage. Shock and awe and command and control eradication of established Iraqi Army has played a very good role in controlling the passions of many an enthusiast.

Now, I do see Pakistan as the most important ally of US in Islamic world not otherwise and that is what I have been saying all along, and please look at the new status that USA has accorded Pakistanis that of trusted ally outside Nato. The right has been a traditional friends of pakis it is under liberals that my nation has suffered the most, Durray is out of sync when he says that these ideas are a common currency and right wing thread would take this as hyenas to a fallen dead. The facts are far from reality.

I have poured a lot of ink on these pages about the inherent instability of our northern regions. These regions are devoid of education and have always resisted colonialism; I cannot help to openly advocate the good side of British colonialism that helped my Kakazai grandfather who was a maulvi to send my father to become a doctor at King Edward Medical College in early 1900’s. These institutions made a different between me being a fundo byproduct or a moderate person, my family from northern areas saved the extremes of ideas since we were exposed to renaissance a solid 10 years earlier than what my tribes today in north are exposed too, I cannot be more faithful to change than to my blood, every bullet fired their takes part of me away but I would rather see a change and this change has come due to these people who are hell bent to eradicate sanctuaries of instability, these eradications were corner stone of my article that I wrote on 911.

It is for this that I am unrepentant supporter of education, freedom and more democracy with its associated chaos since that is the way to progress. Under Saddam every thing was so fine, the south of Iraq as I sit here in Kuwait and write this post was quite as dead for forty years Shiites were killed pillaged and raped, today they have freedom they cannot manage it even French could not after their revolution but eventually France did become a beacon a democracy and freedom, it is time of change we will change but our change is coming under glaring lights of Fox and CNN, you had your wars under no live coverage, although our atrocities look more disgusting and our cities more uncontrollable but we all humans a culpable of equal crimes we all have learning curves to climb when it comes to becoming true citizens of earth. The cities are as worst as Paris under revolution and this is the price of change.

< He says that instead of waiting for Pakistan to get their act together we ought to just go in there and fix the place up for them like we're fixing up Iraq. He says that making a deal with an unelected military officer like Musharraf is like trying to deal with Stalin or Hitler.>

I think that is an acceptable thing if Pakistan was Iraq, if we had used mustard against our own populace if our minorities were dug in alive in 100’s of thousands not that we have not committed serious crimes against humanity when Bangladesh war happened but lets keep our focus clear, is Pakistan an Iraq, to be an Iraq we need conditions under which freedom of condemnation against dictator does not exist.

I have all the freedom that I can express my views, now Hitler was burning humans in Auschwitz and Saddam waged wars after wars on neighboring countries eradicating minorities and dissent, none of this has happened in our case rather 1.5 million soldiers facing each other until 18 months ago are now back in barracks, and nuke bearing country have shown remarkable restraint and caution. Although black-marketing of nuclear centrifuges adds new uncertainties but official action to eradicate this does soothes the tempers. Mush coup was a bloodless coup, it helped break the mind set of Pakistani Army that was built during Afghan war against USR as army of Allah, the concept that green is better than red was inspired slogan of CIA, getting rid of evil empire than was the biggest challenge, unlike Stalin, Saddam and Hitler we don’t have gulags or concentration camps like Abu Gharieb prisons although our common prisons are as bad, but we don’t have overnight disappearances and we don’t have a muzzled press if all this freedom and our rights to criticize are taken away along with mass disappearances we definitely need to see a change and eradiation of evil, rather evil of ideology has been bottled by Mush, not the other way, once again this rightist individual may be a person who has no recognition of events as they happen and the generalization that most of us do does not help either to understand the complications.
