AS says ..way back.. Kerry's mother was a Forbes. Rosemary Forbes, born in Paris, spent much time in the Forbes family estate on the French coast. He inherited his mother's family trust in 2002, I understand. The Forbes family is quite wealthy. They are OLD money. The Forbes family fortune was made in the Chinese opium trade. I'm not kidding. His grandfather (James Grant Forbes) was born in Shanghai, China. Kerry's great grandfather (Francis Blackwell Forbes) was an opium dealer in Shanghai. Other Forbes family members in the opium trade were John Murray Forbes and Robert Bennett Forbes (the founder of the Forbes family fortune). en.wikipedia.org Hmm, I wonder whether this would affect dealings with China? To be fair, you wouldn't think so, but the Chinese have a long memory.
